In Apple's September Far Out event, the company released its all-new iPhone line-up, rebuilt AirPods Pro, and three new Apple Watch models.
But what’s new in the Apple iPhone 14 release? Here are the takeaways by Simply Fixable.
Does it offer the flagship features, world-class software standards, and Apple’s unique touch and elegance?
Let’s find out the first impressions of the iPhone 14 and the news related to Apple's new flagship range of phones and see if they live up to the hype.
Apple launched four models for its iPhone 14 series and has removed the mini iPhone variant from its lineup.
The baseline iPhones resemble the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, which have 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays, respectively.
Both the iPhone devices look almost identical to the previous year's iPhone 13 and carry the exact dimensions and design, but with some bumps and refinements here and there.
The screen notch stays the same compared to the previous year's model, with identical positions and heights. The sensors housed in the notch are also virtually the same.
The iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus also share the same A15 Bionic chip, which powered the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Max. The A15 Bionic is still ahead of the competition that Android has to offer. However, the new iPhone 14 Pro lineup gets the A16 Bionic chip.
Apple has introduced a new color with the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 plus range. Gone is the green, and it has been replaced with a new light blue color that adds a bit of newness to the iPhone 14 range.
Three main things that are new here are the:
Like the headphone jack, Apple has also removed the physical sim tray on the US iPhone 14 lineup. The entire ecosystem will move towards e-sim.
The main highlight of the iPhone 14 is the satellite connectivity for SOS, which can help you send messages to areas with no cellular connection.
Apple has avoided a price hike and has kept the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus prices consistent with the previous generation models. The iPhone 14 starts at $799 for the 128GB model, while the bigger iPhone 14 Plus starts at $899 for the 128GB model.
The flagship versions of the iPhone 14 range offer the same features as the 14 and 14 Plus, like satellite connection, action mode in the camera, and 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch variants.
But there are a few new things that separate it from the base models of the iPhone 14 range:
The new Dynamic island is an interactive and magical way to interact with the iPhone. The pro versions also offer an innovative 48MP camera for excellent details. Also, Apple offers the ultimate smartphone chips for its iPhones with great performance and efficiency.
The iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max versions didn’t witness a price increase, and the starting price is the same as the last generation iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
The iPhone 14 Pro costs $999, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max price starts at $1099 for the 128GB model, respectively. You can replace your previous iPhone in the exchange offer to get a decent discount to purchase the new iPhone from the 14 series.
iOS 16 was introduced on the stage at WWDC'22. The iOS 16 and its latest version power the iPhone 14 lineup. For their new iPhones, Apple has introduced many great features and upgrades with the iOS 16.
Here is the summary of the most important new features:
The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus comes with iPhone 13 Pro's chipset, the A15 Bionic with 5-core GPU. The first time a new iPhone generation ships with last year's Apple chipset. The iPhone 14 has 15% better performance than the iPhone 13.
Also, the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max come with the Apple A16 Bionic chip, which consumes 20% less power than the Apple A15 Bionic.
All the iPhone 14 devices support 5G connectivity and offer a great user experience to Apple users.
The iPhone has sometimes been called as the last “fun” flagship because of its multiple color choices. The iPhone 14 lineup is also no exception. There have been many new iPhone 14 colors rumoured. However, with the launch of the iPhone, we got to witness Deep Purple iPhone 14 Pro.
The iPhone 14 purple color looks much better in person than in photos because the shade of purple Apple has used reflects the light very nicely.
The deep purple color is only available on the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max, and gone are the green and light blue colors for the Pro models. The iPhone 14 purple color is much more vibrant and uses a light shade of purple.
Flip phones are getting quite popular due to their versatile and convenient use. Samsung Galaxy Flip 4 has gained a lot of attention from the masses. Oppo is also coming out with their foldable device.
With so many phone manufacturers wanting a piece of the foldable phone pie, it begs the question when will Apple make a flip phone. There were rumors regarding the iPhone 14 Pro Max flip variant coming out this year.
However, now that the iPhone 14 Pro Max has been officially released the rumors regarding a flip iPhone have been nullified. One cannot deny that Apple will eventually launch a flip phone, but when we will get to hear an official flip phone announcement is anyone’s guess.
The biggest difference between the iPhone 14 and the iPhone is the dynamic Island notch. With the iPhone 14 Pro Max Apple has finally decided to get rid of the notch and include a much smaller pin hole cutout that dynamically adjusts for added functionality. It’s a great concept and works flawlessly.
Apple has also improved the camera of the iPhone 14. The Pro models get a newer and larger 48 MP camera sensor. All variants of the iPhone 14 get satellite connectivity for SOS messages.
The entire iPhone 14 lineup provides a more refined user experience and sets the foundation for all the great things that are to come with the iPhones in the future.
The entire iPhone 14 lineup has IP68 water and dust resistance, which means that the phone can be submerged underwater for 30 minutes at a depth of 6 meters. So, if you are taking pictures with the iPhone 14 underwater at a depth of fewer than 6 meters, the phone should work without any issues.
Apple has claimed the iPhone 14 to be their longest-lasting iPhone yet. The iPhone 14 comes with a 3279 mAH battery, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max has a 4323 mAH battery. The battery capacity is similar to the iPhone 13 lineup. Considering that the iPhone 13 models could last a complete day quite easily, there is no reason why the iPhone 14 should not last an entire day on a full charge with the more efficient iOS 16.
