BIOS updates are very important because they add new features and fix existing bugs or errors present in the current version of the BIOS.
Despite its importance, many people don’t update the Asus BIOS in a timely manner, which results in the computer not performing optimally or exhibiting unusual behavior.
Updating the BIOS used to be a very tricky task because one wrong step could cause the motherboard to fail permanently. However, Asus has simplified the process with their EZ Flash 3 utility software. Here’s how to use the EZ flash 3 utility to update the Asus BIOS safely and conveniently using two different methods.
Asus BIOS (Basic Input and Output System) is the firmware that controls all the aspects of the motherboard. A BIOS contains a host of different settings including boot, power, voltage, overclock, and storage settings.
A motherboard is linked with all the different computer components, so it needs a firmware which can guide how a motherboard interacts with every component of the PC, and BIOS is the firmware that does that.
The Asus BIOS update adds new features and fixes bugs that were present in the previous version of the Asus BIOS. Since the BIOS is the main firmware controlling how a motherboard interacts with other PC hardware it is important to update Asus BIOS as technology evolves and new features become available.
BIOS is the heart of the whole computer operation. When the BIOS gets outdated, there will be clear, prominent signs indicating that you need to update the BIOS.
If you are experiencing these signs, updating the Asus BIOS is a must. Even if you aren’t getting these signs, installing the latest version of Asus BIOS can refresh your computer and save you from any issues that may come down the road.
Note: This method works only for Asus BIOS with EZ Flash 3 software utility
Updating the Asus BIOS using the internet is the most convenient method for updating the BIOS. It does not involve any preparation and is a one-step process in which users can get to the method without any delay.
To update Asus BIOS using the Internet, all you need is a stable Internet connection that is connected to the computer via an Ethernet LAN cable. This method can also work with a Wi-Fi connection.
However, there are many user reports of the EZ flash 3 utility software, which is used to update the Asus BIOS, not working with Wi-Fi. So, using an Ethernet LAN cable is recommended to spare yourself from the trouble of facing issues during installation.
Note: For demonstration, I will be using the Asus TUF Gaming X570-plus motherboard. However, the steps below are the same for all Asus BIOS with the EZ flash 3 utility software.
If you have an Asus motherboard that comes with an older version of the EZ flash utility, such as EZ flash 1 or EZ flash 2, then you can update the Asus BIOS manually. Updating the Asus BIOS manually requires a bit more work and is usually more time-consuming than using the internet method for the BIOS update.
The process is also more intricate and complex, so make sure to follow the guide with each step. Here’s how you can update the Asus BIOS manually.
Before you manually update the Asus BIOS, it is important to know the existing BIOS version of the Asus motherboard. You need to know the existing BIOS version to know if the motherboard even needs a BIOS update or not. The following is the method for checking the current version of the Asus BIOS.
To update Asus BIOS, get the latest version of the BIOS from the manufacturer’s website. It is important to know the exact model of the motherboard. Asus has many motherboards in its lineup, and downloading the BIOS of the wrong motherboard model can lead to issues.
In step one, you were required to note down the name of the motherboard along with the BIOS version. If you haven’t done so, repeat step one and note it down. Other people can proceed with the following.
Once you have downloaded the latest version of ASUS BIOS, you will need to copy the BIOS files to a USB drive. An 8GB USB drive will be plentiful to complete this task, so you can use any existing USB you have lying around.
Before copying the BIOS files to a USB drive, make sure to format the USB. Without formatting the USB drive, the BIOS files will not be detected. Hence you will not be able to update the Asus BIOS.
Now that we have everything we need to update the BIOS, it is time to begin the update process. The process for manually updating the process is quite similar to the processor updating Asus BIOS using the internet. There are small changes that we will look at now.
The BIOS update may take a while, so you need to be patient. Only remove the USB drive once the entire process is completed and the Asus BIOS has updated successfully. If the USB drive is removed during the update, the motherboard will get bricked.
If the Asus BIOS update is not done carefully, it can lead to problems. The most infamous problem is the motherboard bricking. This is a serious issue and one that has the potential to damage the motherboard permanently. To avoid this issue, make sure that the Asus BIOS update is not disturbed mid-installation.
The other issue, which is quite common, comes after the Asus BIOS update is complete. This issue is caused when the drivers don’t work after the BIOS update. For instance, the computer will not play audio. To solve the audio issue, reinstall the driver, which is not working properly.
The Asus BIOS does not update automatically. It is up to the users to check for the latest BIOS updates and install them. It is a good practice to check for the latest BIOS update semi-annually, so you don’t miss any updates.
Before wrapping up the article, it is important to iterate on the importance of being patient while updating Asus BIOS. Once you have entered the BIOS update screen, do not turn off the computer, remove the USB or disconnect the Internet until the update is fully complete. During BIOS updates, the computer may restart a few times, so don’t fret; it is part of the process.
If your Asus motherboard supports EZ flash 3, use the network method. On the contrary, use the manual method if it comes with a previous version of the EZ flash utility. Follow each step meticulously, and you will be good to go!
